Ninety-Hz Spinal Cord Stimulation-Induced Analgesia Is Dependent on Active Charge Balance and Is Nonlinearly Related to Amplitude: A Sham-Controlled Behavioral Study in a Rodent Model of Chronic Neuropathic Pain.

Folks, we’ve got this incredible thing called the 90-Hz active-recharge spinal cord stimulation (SCS). It’s fantastic, it’s been shown to produce significant pain relief. But we need to understand it better, we need to make it even greater. So, we did this study, a preclinical study, with rats. We induced neuropathic pain in them, implanted a quadripolar lead at T13, and then we tested them. We tested them with different SCS paradigms, different intensities, and we observed them.

And let me tell you, the results were tremendous. At 40% motor threshold (MT), the 90-Hz active-recharge SCS, it was a winner. It produced a significantly larger recovery than the 90-Hz pseudopassive SCS and the sham SCS. It was fantastic, folks. But we didn’t stop there. We did a second experiment, and again, the 90-Hz SCS active recharge at 40% MT, it was the best. It was statistically better than the sham SCS.

So, what we’ve learned is that the 90-Hz SCS, it’s all about the charge balance. The active-recharge SCS, it’s the best, it generates better responses. But we need to be careful, we need to configure the amplitude of the 90-Hz active-recharge SCS just right for it to work. It’s a delicate balance, but when we get it right, it’s going to be huge.
