Folks, we’ve got a big issue here, a really big issue. It’s about post-cardiac surgery pain. It’s affecting patients, it’s affecting caregivers, it’s affecting nurses. We don’t know enough about it, we just don’t. We need to dig deeper, we need to understand better. That’s what this study is all about, folks.

We’ve got a top-notch team, the best of the best, working in a cardiovascular surgery ward in Türkiye. They’ve been at it from June to December 2022. They’ve been talking to patients, caregivers, nurses – getting the real story. They’ve been using this thing called a ‘semi-structured interview form’, really getting into the nitty-gritty.

And let me tell you, they’ve found some things. Six big themes, folks. We’re talking about ‘explaining pain’, ‘assessment of pain’, ‘responses to pain’, ‘effect of pain on activities of daily living’, ‘expectations in painful situations’ and ‘pain management’.

What we’ve learned is that there’s a difference, a big difference, in how patients, caregivers, and nurses perceive and deal with pain after cardiac surgery. We need to consider all these perspectives, we need to get everyone involved in the care practices. It’s going to be huge, folks, it’s going to be huge.
