Listen up, folks, we’ve got something important to talk about here. It’s about Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), a big deal because it’s a genetic condition that can lead to tumors. And guess what? Women with NF1, they’re facing more breast cancer and tougher battles with survival. That’s not good, not good at all.

Now, there’s this thing called breast density, and it’s a big player in the risk for breast cancer. So, we did this study, a fantastic study, to check out the breast density in women with NF1. We had a group of 98 amazing women with NF1, and we compared their mammograms to 300 healthy women. We had top-notch radiologists and the latest Computer-Aided Detection software looking at these mammograms. The best, really.

And you know what we did? We ran the numbers, the Chi-squared test, and these fancy multivariable models, taking into account age, BMI, pregnancies, menopausal status – all of it. And guess what we found? No difference, absolutely no difference in breast density between NF1 patients and the healthy women. That’s right, even with all those factors considered, NF1 doesn’t seem to affect breast density.

So, even though NF1 and dense breasts are big red flags for breast cancer, our study, a very comprehensive study, shows that NF1 patients have similar breast density to healthy subjects. The NF1 gene, it doesn’t change breast density. That’s the bottom line. It’s important, very important for understanding breast cancer in these brave women.
