Let me tell you, folks, our healthcare workers, the best, the bravest, they’ve been through a lot, a tremendous amount during this COVID-19 pandemic. We’re talking about real heroes in our Spanish hospitals. But, let me be clear, it’s been tough, really tough on their mental health. We did a study, a big study, in May and June 2020, to see just how tough it’s been. And believe me, the results, they’re something else.

We had 870 of these incredible workers take part, and what we found was, frankly, concerning. A lot of them are struggling, big time. We’re talking about major depressive disorder in 33.6% of them, generalized anxiety disorder in 25.5%, panic attacks in 26.9%, PTSD in 27.2%, and even substance use disorder in 5%. And who’s getting hit the hardest? Our young people, those aged 18-29, and our auxiliary nurses, especially those who’ve been right there, face to face with COVID-19. And if they had mental health issues before, it’s even tougher for them now.

Let’s not beat around the bush – our hospital workers, they’re facing a crisis, a mental health crisis. Depression, PTSD, panic attacks, anxiety – it’s all there, and it’s serious. But we’re going to get through this, because we’re strong, and we support our healthcare heroes. They’ve been there for us, and we need to be there for them. It’s going to be great, we’re going to make sure of it. Together, we’re going to make healthcare mental support better than ever before. Believe me.
