Let’s Make Healthcare Great Again for Middle-Aged Americans!

Listen up, folks. We’ve got a huge problem on our hands. Middle-aged adults are facing more and more functional impairments, and it’s not good. Not good at all. We’re talking about serious stuff here – problems that can lead to adverse health outcomes. But guess what? Our primary care providers (PCPs) and geriatricians, they’ve got some ideas. Great ideas, about how to take care of these patients. But, and it’s a big but, we don’t know enough about what they think. Until now.

We went out there, in the San Francisco Bay area, and talked to these heroes in healthcare. We’re talking about 14 PCPs and 15 geriatricians. They told us everything – how middle-aged patients are different from older adults, and how their needs are pretty much the same. But here’s the kicker: there are barriers, big barriers, to giving these folks the care they need. Things like insurance issues, not enough training for our doctors, and patients feeling stigmatized.

But do we give up? No! Our healthcare professionals are suggesting some fantastic solutions. We’re talking about making sure healthcare systems address social needs, creating team-based care models, training our clinicians better, and expanding community services. It’s all about making sure everyone, no matter their age, gets the care they need.

And let me tell you, both our PCPs and geriatricians agree on this. It’s clear, folks. We need to increase access to these care models. We need to make sure that middle-aged Americans with functional impairments get the support they deserve. It’s time to make healthcare great again for them. Let’s do it!
