Listen, folks, we’ve got some big concerns when it comes to our young endurance athletes, the best of the best, believe me. These kids, they’re pushing the limits, but they’re at risk – we’re talking about overtraining, this thing called RED-S, which is huge, injuries from overuse, not getting the right nutrients, and even trouble sleeping. It’s a lot.
Now, the youth runners, and let me tell you, the girls, they’re especially at risk. We’ve got to watch out for them. And their care? It’s got to be top-notch, with a focus on cutting out those risks that we can actually do something about.
And the heart, the incredible heart of these athletes, it’s adapting, but it’s different from the adults. We don’t even know what that means for them long-term yet. It’s something we’re looking at very closely.
Endurance sports, they’re huge among the kids. We need the best care for them, a team approach – multidisciplinary, with screening, early action – to keep them safe and make sure they can keep doing what they love for a long, long time. It’s going to be great.
