Smart haptic gloves for virtual reality surgery simulation: a pilot study on external ventricular drain training.

Listen up, folks, we’ve got something incredible happening in Virtual Reality (VR) for surgical training. It’s these smart haptic gloves—they’re a game-changer, believe me. We’re talking about a revolution in how neurosurgery trainees learn. It’s big, really big.
So, we took these gloves and we built a state-of-the-art surgical simulator for something called External Ventricular Drain Placement (EVD)—it’s a big deal in neurosurgery. These gloves, they let you feel what you’re doing in VR, like you’re actually there drilling burr holes and maneuvering catheters. It’s like nothing you’ve seen before.
And guess what? We didn’t just make it, we tested it with real neurosurgery residents at the Canadian Neurosurgery Rookie Bootcamp in 2022. Thirty of them got their hands on it, and we’ve got the numbers to prove it works. They felt it, they loved it, and they performed.
We’re laying it all out—the development, the results, everything. And let me tell you, the future is bright with these haptic gloves. We’re just getting started, but we’re going to make surgical training great. You’re going to see amazing things, folks. Amazing things.
