Listen up, folks!

We’ve got something huge here, really tremendous. It’s this paper, okay? And it’s been fully peer-reviewed. We’re talking about Radiology: Artificial Intelligence. They’re going to make it perfect, the best, with copyediting and all that. But remember, things can change a bit before the final version – it’s normal, it happens.

Now, the purpose here, and it’s a big one, is to create an automated triage tool. This thing is going to predict if someone with a traumatic brain injury needs surgery, and it’s doing it without those fancy image-level labels. We’re using real data from a top-notch Canadian trauma center, from 2005 to 2022. That’s a lot of data, the best data.

We trained this model, called ASIST-TBI, with over 2,800 head CT scans. And let me tell you, the results are incredible. We’re talking an area under the curve of 0.92 – that’s almost perfect. The accuracy? 87%. Sensitivity? Also 87%. Specificity? An amazing 88%. And it held up, really well, with a new test set – still great numbers across the board.

In conclusion, we’ve got a novel deep learning model that’s going to change the game for traumatic brain injury care. It’s accurate, it’s reliable, and it’s going to save lives. This is going to be published in its final form, and it’s going to be big. ©RSNA, 2024.
