Listen, we’ve got a situation with brain metastases (BM) in breast cancer (BC) patients, and it’s a big deal. It’s affecting their prognosis, their quality of life – it’s huge. Now, we’ve made some progress with surgery and radiotherapy, but let’s be honest, the prognosis is still not great. And the drugs we have? They’re not doing the job in the brain, especially after the first treatments don’t work anymore. It’s because of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) – it’s tough, it keeps a lot of drugs out.

But here’s the thing, we’re not totally clear on all the reasons why these treatments fail. It’s complicated, and it might be different depending on the type of breast cancer. Now, we’ve got some new small molecules, and they’re showing promise, especially for HER2-positive BC – we’re talking about a real chance to improve survival here.

We’re entering a new era for BM treatment. There are trials happening right now, specifically for these patients. It’s a call to action for the BC research community – we’ve got to step up, improve these therapies for the brain, and stop BM from happening in the first place. We’re going to do it, and it’s going to be fantastic.
