Prognostic Factors of Mortality and Functional Outcome for Acute Subdural Hematoma: A Review Article.

Listen folks, we’ve got something really important to talk about here – it’s about Acute subdural hematoma, or ASDH. It’s a big deal, a huge deal in high-income countries because it’s the top reason people need brain surgery after an injury. But here’s the thing – there’s been a lot of confusion, a lot of uncertainty about what happens to these patients, whether they get surgery or not. We’re talking life and death, and how well they can live after the injury.
So, we did something incredible. We went through the Medline database, all the way from the beginning until 2023, and we found 41 patient series. That’s a lot of data, believe me. And we found out some amazing things. There are certain factors, clinical and radiologic, that can tell us a lot about the chances of dying or how well a patient might recover. Things like how awake they are when they come in, what their pupils are doing, how quickly they get to surgery, and what their brain scans look like.
And let me tell you, we’ve got some fantastic tools now – the SHE and RASH scores. They’re like a crystal ball, helping doctors predict what’s going to happen with these patients. It’s going to be huge in helping doctors decide when to operate.
So, we’ve added some incredible knowledge to what we know about ASDH. We’ve got new factors that can help predict outcomes, and we’ve got these amazing scores for everyday use in the clinic. It’s going to be great for doctors, great for patients. We’re going to do so much good with this, you won’t believe it.
