Listen up, folks!
We’ve got a situation here, and it’s a big one. Microsporidia and Cryptosporidium, these tiny intruders, they’re causing trouble, big trouble, for people with HIV. They’re not just any organisms, they’re opportunistic, which means they’re taking advantage when people are down. And let me tell you, they’re doing it in Iran, in Tabriz, where our great scientists have been working hard, very hard, from 2016 to 2017.
They did this study, a cross-sectional study, and it’s fantastic, the best. They looked at 100 people, all HIV-infected, and guess what? They found that 21% had Cryptosporidium and 18% had microsporidia. That’s by the microscope, which is good, but then they used this incredible technology, PCR, and the numbers, they’re close, very close. 18% for Cryptosporidium and 14% for microsporidia.
And the big one, the big finding, is Enterocytozoon bieneusi, it’s everywhere, in 85.7% of the cases. That’s huge. But there’s also Encephalitozoon cuniculi, not as much, but still there, in 14.3% of the cases.
This is the first time, the very first, that they’ve done this in northwest Iran. And let me tell you, the numbers are higher, much higher than the rest of the world for people with weakened immune systems. We need more studies, the best studies, and we need to take action, preventive action, to stop these little guys from causing more problems.
So let’s get to work, let’s make it happen, and let’s keep our people healthy!
