Minimally Invasive Techniques in the Surgical Management of Traumatic Pediatric Thoracolumbar Fractures.

Listen, folks, we’ve got something incredible here. We’re talking about kids, young, amazing kids with these, you know, thoracolumbar fractures. Not common, but when they happen, they’re a big deal, a huge deal. And we’ve got the best, the absolute best approach for them – it’s called minimally invasive surgery. It’s new, it’s innovative, and nobody, I mean nobody, has reported this in young children before. It’s fantastic.

We did this thing, a big review, from 2018 to 2023, looking at all the kids under 18 who got this special surgery for their serious spine injuries. We’re not talking about a couple of kids; we’re talking about twelve. They’re from 4 to 17 years old, a great range, the best range. And the types of fractures – we’ve seen them all, from Chance fractures, which were half of them, to burst fractures. More in the lumbar spine, but some in the thoracic too.

And here’s the kicker: we used this incredible technology, neuro-navigation, robot-assisted stuff – it’s like science fiction, but it’s real, and it’s here. We put in these screws, percutaneously, with barely any blood loss. I’m telling you, less than 30 milliliters. That’s like a shot glass, folks, for these single-level fractures and fusion. It’s nothing.

Now, sure, a couple of kids had some issues with the hardware, but that’s just two out of twelve. And the follow-up, it’s been almost 10 months, and the results are beautiful. The X-rays look great, the kids are doing great. It’s a success, a huge success.

So, what we’re saying here is this: minimally invasive surgery for these kids is safe, it’s effective, and it’s the future. We’re leading the way, and the outcomes, they’re just tremendous. You’re going to love it.
