Listen, folks, we’ve got a situation with asthma, it’s a big deal, a huge problem worldwide. The experts, they’ve got these guidelines, right? They’re good, they’re great, but when you’re looking at the big picture, when you’re doing those massive surveys, you need something better, something smarter. That’s where the standardized asthma questionnaire comes in – it’s a winner, believe me. It’s cheap, it’s effective, and it gets the job done.
Now, there are these four big surveys – the ECRHS, ISAAC, EISL, and WHS – they’re doing an incredible job, the best, really, at figuring out how many people are dealing with asthma. And this data, it’s gold, it’s what the Global Burden of Disease Study uses to understand what’s happening with asthma all over the world.
But here’s the thing, in China, they’ve been doing things a little differently. They’ve been using their own methods, which is fine, but it’s been tough to compare their numbers with the rest of the world. So, they launched this China Pulmonary Health study, a big one, and they found out that 4.2% of adults, that’s 45.7 million people, are dealing with asthma. It’s a lot, but remember, that’s just the adults over 20, and only those with wheezing.
And here’s the kicker – asthma in China, it’s under the radar. It’s not diagnosed enough, not treated enough. We’ve got to do better, we’ve got to step up the game in prevention, detection, and treatment. It’s time for action, it’s time to make asthma control great.
