Listen folks, we’ve got something huge here. The gut, it’s more important than you think, believe me. We’re talking about the gut and the big, bad abdominal aortic aneurysm – AAA, a real problem, okay? Now, there’s this thing, the gut microbiota, it’s incredible, and it’s changing when you have AAA. But we didn’t know which way it goes, what causes what – until now.
We did something very smart, a Mendelian randomization. That’s a big deal, very scientific. We looked at a lot of people, I mean a lot – over 18,000 for the gut, and more than 353,000 for AAA. We checked out 196 of these tiny little gut bugs to see what they’re doing about AAA.
And we found out, yes we did. Nine of these little bugs, they’re causing trouble, they’re increasing the risk of AAA. We’re talking about Bilophila, Catenibacterium, and a few others – they’re not good, okay? But then, we’ve got the good guys, Lentisphaeria and Victivallales, they’re fighting back, lowering the risk. It’s like a war in there!
But wait, there’s more. AAA, it’s also messing with the gut. It’s a two-way street, a real back-and-forth. And we’ve seen it, especially with Lentisphaeria and Victivallales – they’re in the thick of it.
