Managing delayed or missed pregabalin doses in patients with focal epilepsy: a Monte Carlo simulation study.

Folks, we’ve got a problem with epilepsy treatment. People are missing their doses, and it’s a big deal. The FDA, they’ve got some ideas, but they’re too generic, no real evidence behind them. So, we did something fantastic. We used Monte Carlo simulations, a top-notch method, to figure out what to do when a dose of pregabalin, a key epilepsy drug, is missed.
We looked at five different strategies, and guess what? They all depend on how long the delay is and the patient’s renal function. If the delay is short, just take the regular dose right away. The cut-off times for this are 1, 2, 4, and 12 hours, depending on the patient’s renal function. But if the delay is long, you need to take a regular dose and a partial dose. Usually, taking 1.3 times the regular dose at the next scheduled time does the trick.
This is a huge step forward. We’ve got solid, quantitative evidence for these strategies. We’re making epilepsy treatment great again!
